28th Annual Detroit Open Kendo Tournament/Seminar Hosted by Detroit Kendo Dojo

We are excited to announce our 28th Annual Detroit Open Kendo Tournament and Seminar.

Registration Deadline: Thursday, January 22, 2026
Dojo Representatives, Tournament/Seminar registration must be completed by each dojo, not by individual participants. Please email the tournament committee at [email protected] as soon as possible. Upon receiving your email, we will reply with the registration form link.

Fees (all ages are as of January 1st, 2026)
Seminar Fee (registered by Jan 25, 2026),

USD 40 (age 18 and older)
USD 25 (age 17 and younger)

We may accept on-site seminar registration with following seminar fees,
USD 55 (age 18 and older)
USD 40 (age 17 and younger)

Tournament Fee,

USD 65 (age 18 and older)
USD 35 (age 17 and younger)

 

2026 Detroit Kendo Dojo Kendo Seminar (Saturday, February 14th )

We are deeply honored to have the opportunity to invite distinguished guest sensei from Japan to our seminar.
Shinji Shimizu sensei, Kendo Hanshi 8th Dan (Kumamoto Prefecture)
Moeko Takahashi sensei, Kendo Renshi 6th Dan (Kanagawa Prefecture)

Shimizu Sensei has played a leading role in the kendo world, serving as a judge for the 8th dan examination. Recently, he played as Taisho of the west team in All Japan Tozai-Taiko Kendo Taikai Champion (2023) and contributed to their victory.

Takahashi Sensei won the latest All-Japan Women’s Kendo Championship (2025) for the third time. Her brilliant records also include the World Kendo Championships, the University Women’s Championships and Inter-High Championships.

Schedule:

Seminar check-in: 11:00 am – 11:45 am
Seminar: 11:50 am – 17:00 pm

In the first part of the seminar, participants will be divided into two groups, with Shimizu sensei and Takahashi sensei leading each group, and followed by shido-keiko for all.
